Achilles

Achilles was one of the greatest Greek warriors who ever lived. He was the son of the nymph Thetis and the hero Peleus. Having been the first to dipped in the River Styx by his mother, Achilles gained the power of impenetrable skin. He was killed in the Trojan War when Paris, Prince of Troy, shot him with an arrow in his heel, which was his mortal point.

History[]

Achilles was the son of the nymph Thetis and Peleus, the king of the Myrmidons. Zeus and Poseidon had been rivals for the hand of Thetis until Prometheus, the fire-bringer, warned Zeus of a prophecy that Thetis would bear a son greater than his father. For this reason, the two gods withdrew their pursuit, and had her wed Peleus.

When Achilles was born, Thetis tried to make him immortal by dipping him in the River Styx. However, he was left vulnerable at the part of the body she held him by, his heel.

Peleus entrusted Achilles to Chiron the Centaur, on Mt. Pelion, to be raised and trained.

Ancient Myth[]

Achilles was one of the many heroes recruited by Agamemmon and Menelaus on their expedition of the conquest to Troy. At first he refused, but after lengthy convincing he agreed. When they finally reached Troy he fought well, but after 3 or 5 years, he got into an argument with Agamennon and he refused to fight. His best friend Patrocules took his armor and with his leadership he moved the Trojans back, but alas, their successfulness did not last, and Patrocules was slain by the great Hector, the hero of the Trojan army. In a frenzy of grief, Achilles nearly committed suicide, if not for his faithful companions who held him back. His mother Thetis then brought him new armor, and he forgave Agammenon.

Enraged, Achilles brought down his wrath on the Trojan army, creating carnage among the Trojans. He filled up a river so full of bodies that it overflowed. But Achilles wanted one death - Hector's death. As the Trojans ran madly for the city Hector bravely stood to face Achilles. Achilles cackled insanly and they had a magnificent fight. But only Achilles came back to the Greek camp. He would not live for much longer, for an Oracle had predicted if he slew Hector, he would die soon after. Sure enough as Paris, the abductor of Helen, came to the field when he shot an arrow at Achilles, and guided by Apollo, Achilles met his death.

Physical Description[]

Achilles is described like the God of War, Ares. Except for his left heel, he is invincible. He's tall and buff with dark hair. What sets him apart from Ares was that his eyes look human.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Achilles was highly trained in melee combat, due to training by Chiron.
  • Achilles was almost completely invulnerable, due to bathing in the River Styx.
